This young Turkish woman has been shot in the heart apparently by a sex pest uncle who harassed her for years.

Bensu Narli, 23, was allegedly killed in the district of Milas in the south-western Turkish province of Mugla by her aunt’s husband, identified as Serhat Kantas.

According to reports, he came to her house under the pretext of apologising for a previous incident when he suddenly pulled out a gun and shot the young woman in the heart.

Local media said new evidence has emerged that indicates Kantas harassed the victim for several years.

While Narli was buried in the district of Gulluk on 13th March, Kantas was arrested and held in Mugla Prison.

Education and Science Workers’ Union spokesperson Yuksel Okyay, who attended the funeral, told local media: “Our hearts burn. Bensu was killed in cold blood. The suspect was her aunt’s husband, a relative who harassed and threatened Bensu many times.

“Also, it was revealed that there are multiple cases of sexual abuse and threats against other women and girls lodged at the Milas courthouse.

“We even found out that he has threatened female lawyers registered with the Mugla Bar Association who dealt with these cases.

“Measures could have been taken before this person committed this murder, Bensu could have been alive today.”

Okyay said they will hold a ceremony for Narli on 18th March which will involve “Bensu’s family, friends, and women’s organisations and NGOs”.

The investigation is ongoing.
