Prankster Accidentally Shoots Girl, 17, In Head After Pointing Gun For A Joke

A man is on the run after he accidentally shot a 17-year-old girl in the head on New Year’s Eve while playing Russian roulette in a car.

Melek Nur Ozgener was seriously injured when she was shot in a car in Istanbul, Turkey, allegedly by Ercan D., 32, while the two were celebrating together with another teenage girl, identified as Nisa A., 17.

Ercan D. allegedly pulled out the gun and pointed it at the two girls saying: “Should I shoot you? Or you?”

But the poor-taste prank ended in tragedy when the gun went off and Melek was hit in the head.

Ercan D. then rushed her to hospital seriously injured AND passed away six days later.

Ercan D. is still on the run.

Melek was buried at the Fatih Mosque on 7th December, with many in attendance, according to reports.

There were tears as the young girl was laid to rest by her heartbroken family and friends.

Melek was buried in the Edirnekapi Cemetery after the service.

Ercan D. is still on the run, with local media reporting that he was released from prison four years ago for murder.

Femicide is a growing problem in Turkey, particularly after the country officially quit the Istanbul Convention in July of 2021.

According to the 2023 Annual Data Report announced by the We Will Stop Femicide Platform, 315 women were killed by men throughout last year, while 248 women were found suspiciously dead.

According to data from the Monument Counter – which is “a digital memorial for women killed by violence” that gets daily updates – 5 femicides have taken place in Turkey so far this year.
