The dead body of a trans woman has been found wrapped in a sheet inside a sofa bed at her apartment in Turkey.

Kadir Yuksel, who went by the name of Miras Gunes, was last seen on 18th February and was reported as missing by her family on 1st March.

Neighbours called the trans woman’s relatives after they noticed a bad odour coming from her seemingly empty apartment in the Turkish city of Izmir on the night of 11th March.

Her relatives were reportedly inconsolable and had to be treated for shock after finding her dead body inside the apartment wrapped in a sheet inside her sofa bed.

The emergency services were called to the scene, and an examination of the victim’s body found she had been hit on the head with a blunt object that rendered her face unrecognisable.

The Turkish authorities opened a murder investigation and will analyse CCTV footage in the hope of identifying suspects.

A neighbour also informed the police that Gunes’ car, which she usually parked on the street, had been missing since her disappearance.

At the time of reporting, the victim’s body was undergoing an autopsy. The investigation is ongoing, and no potential suspects have so far been named.
