Turkish Teen Kills Herself After Suspected Rapist Released By Cops

This laughing teenage girl photographed in happier days has reportedly killed herself after learning that one of the two men suspected of raping her had been released from investigative custody.

Eda Nur Kaplan, 18, wrote a suicide note for her family and jumped from the 15th-storey balcony at the home she shared with her older sister in the district of Cankaya in the Turkish capital Ankara at around 1am on 7th August, according to local media.

Neighbours alerted the emergency services to the incident, however, paramedics on the scene could do no more than confirm the teenager’s death.

Her body was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute to undergo an autopsy.

A week before her alleged suicide, the young woman filed a complaint with the police about two men who allegedly sexually abused her while drinking alcohol with her and her sister.

The news site Haberler said Kaplan was taken to a medical centre to undergo checks after the incident, but doctors found no evidence of sexual assault.

One suspect, identified as Mehmet A., was arrested after the victim gave his name to the police.

An investigation was launched to locate the other suspect, identified as Yusuf G., whose name was mentioned during Mehmet A.’s interrogation.

After his statement was taken by the police, Mehmet A. was released due to lack of evidence while the search for Yusuf G. continues, according to local media.

After learning of the suspect’s release, the victim sent her mother a phone message before allegedly killing herself.

She was quoted as saying: “Mum, your little girl, I can’t stand it anymore, they destroyed your daughter. She couldn’t tell anyone anything, she always bottled it away, but it was too much.

“She can’t stand it anymore, she has no faith that things will be okay. She will feel the pain for just a moment instead of every single day.

“Remember, do not let me down, seek justice for me please. I could not stand it, but you can.

“I love you all very much, take care. I couldn’t do it, but the best is yet to come for you.”

Kaplan was buried on 8th August at Karsiyaka Cemetery in Ankara.
