A seven-year-old Turkish boy has died in hospital after his father murdered his mother, set the house ablaze, and then took his own life.

The fire broke out in a flat in the district of Umraniye in the north-western Turkish city of Istanbul on 21st June.

Kerem Guney, 7, was seriously injured in the fire and taken to the Umraniye Training and Research Hospital for emergency treatment, however, he later died of his injuries.

His mother Arzu Rahman Guney was found dead in the home. A preliminary investigation found that she had been murdered, according to the news site Milliyet.

Meanwhile, her husband Mehmet Guney, the boy’s father, disappeared right after the fire broke out.

According to Milliyet, the police found his dead body soon afterwards and believe he killed himself.

It is suspected that Mehmet killed his wife before setting the house on fire, later taking his own life.

It is unclear if he intended for his son to become a fatality and if the boy’s injuries only came from the fire.

The investigation is ongoing.
