A Turkish husband who stabbed his wife 38 times with a hunting knife in a restaurant before being pulled away by other diners later claimed he had no recollection of the incident.

Luckily the victim, Aycan Kinci, 23, managed to survive the brutal restaurant attack in the Turkish city of Izmir and is still receiving medical treatment, according to local media.

She had recently moved back in with her parents after falling out with husband Burak Kinci, age not disclosed.

He invited her to a restaurant to discuss whether she should move back in with him, and when she told him it was still too early, a furious row developed that ended with him allegedly stabbing her with a knife.

He only stopped the frenzied attack when other diners rushed over and pulled him off.

The suspect said: “I don’t remember a thing about what happened. All I know is that I suddenly came to and saw my head covered in blood and a knife in my hands that I then threw on the ground.”

An indictment for attempting to murder his wife has now been filed and he faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Prosecutors said the fact that he went to the restaurant with a hunting knife shows that he intended to kill her.

The investigation continues.
