This young mum has been shot dead by her estranged husband who was the father of their child after she refused to get back together with him.

The shooting took place at the victim’s home in the city of Cal, in the South-eastern Turkish district of Denizli, on 6th March.

According to local media, Osman Ayvaz, 27, and Fatma Kovan, 26 had married when they were young and had a child together, but the marriage had hit the rocks, resulting in the woman filing for divorce.

However, Osman had not given up hope of persuading his wife to change her mind, and said he felt that they were getting better lately and there was a good chance they would get back together.

However, he flew into a rage when he turned up during one of the opportunities he was given to visit his son and asked her if she would reconsider whether they should get divorced.

The young woman made it quite clear that she was not interested, and when she went outside to get some fresh air, he took his hunting rifle and shot her multiple times.

Neighbours who heard the gunshots came round to see what was happening and discover the critically injured young woman with numerous gunshot wounds.

She was rushed to the local Cal State Hospital where she later died from her injuries. Police found nine empty shell casings at the scene of the shooting.

Crime Investigation Teams affiliated with Denizli Provincial Gendarmerie Command determined using license plate recognition systems that the suspect had fled the scene in his vehicle.

The authorities caught up with the vehicle and Ayvaz was taken into custody.

In the search carried out on the car, a small amount of marijuana was seized along with the hunting rifle that police believe Ayvaz used in the shooting.

In his statement he made at the police station, Ayvaz said that he loved his ex-wife very much, and after some friendly exchanges he was hopeful that they would get back together again, and lost his temper when he asked her, and she refused.

The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
