This young woman with everything to live for has been murdered in her student dormitory and her illegal immigrant ex-boyfriend is the main suspect after CCTV cameras recorded the Arabic tattoo on his neck.
Aleyna Yurtkolesi, 22, was a history student at Pamukkale University in the south-western Turkish city of Denizli where she was found lying dead on her bed after worried friends did not see her at lectures.
A locksmith and police officers broke into the woman’s dormitory only to find her lifeless body on the bed.
The suspected killer, Shayan Kheyrian, 25, is an Iranian who entered Turkey almost two years ago and has been living there illegally ever since.
He had tried to cover his face by wearing a mask when he went to confront the victim over the breakup of their relationship, but was identified anyway when the CCTV images recorded the Arabic tattoo on his neck, according to local media.
Reports said that the illegal immigrant has also confessed to the crime.
The body showed no signs of violence, but an autopsy confirmed she had been killed by suffocation, and CCTV images showed that the suspect gained entry to the dormitory by pressing buttons at random and pretending to be a courier.
Once inside, he allegedly suffocated her before escaping after making sure his face was not visible, but the Arabic tattoo gave him away.
After his arrest, he told the police that he went to visit her to see if they could make peace and that an argument ensued when she refused to get back together. As a result, he allegedly strangled her.
Police also confirmed that the suspect entered the country illegally almost two years ago and had been living there since.
A close friend of the victim, Berkan Acar, said: “She was such a sweet person. She really was an angel. She lived in her dormitory alone and was really quiet.
“I met her only recently and we chatted and joked, and it seemed like she had everything to live for. Yet tragically, she is murdered and we are all devastated.
“It’s so sad that we couldn’t do anything, I live opposite and I didn’t notice anything. I wish I could have heard something and gone to help.”
