Cops Probe Claim Young Woman Found Hanged Was Murdered

Police are investigating whether this stunning 21-year-old whose family said had everything to live for was murdered when she was found hanging from a rope at home after finding skin under her fingernails.

The skin which experts have already confirmed is from a human male implies that Aleyna Cakir, 21, fought with somebody before she was found hanged in an apartment in the Turkish capital Ankara on 3rd June, and a man suspected of being her boyfriend has been linked in with the killing.

Umitcan Uygun, 22, admits he went for a meal with her on the day she died, but then left her at her apartment before going drinking with a friend.

The police have been accused of dragging their feet over the case because the suspected killer’s father, Durak Uygun, is allegedly extremely well connected, and there have been several pictures of him with important people including the minister of the interior posted online.

Police have rejected that they are dragging their feet because of the father’s political connections. They said the delay was simply because they have not yet had the results back of the DNA test although three months have now passed, and add they are also trying to establish whether Uygun, believed to be Cakir’s lover, was also in the apartment when the young woman died.

The first report from 8th June, five days after the incident, stated that there were two people in front of the apartment building before the victim died, while a second report three months later said there was only one.

Prepared by two officers reviewing the CCTV footage, the first report said that Cakir died around 1.05am and two people were seen getting out of a white car and walking towards the building.”

Over three months after the victim’s death, a second report was carried out based on suspect statements and CCTV footage that said that Cakir was the only person in front of the building on the night in question.

The victim’s family’s lawyer Umur Yildirim said he would report the contradictions in the reports to the public prosecutor’s office.
