A Turkish cop has been charged for raping and then shooting his wife of only 18 days in the head and trying to pass it off as suicide but was caught when she survived after spending two months in a coma.
The shocking incident took place in the district of Kecioren in the Turkish province of Ankara on 13th September 2020, and the suspect faces up to 75 years in prison.
Police officer Muslum Aktas, 27, lived with his wife Sevginur Aktas, 22, for only 18 days when he allegedly shot her in the head and tried to pass if off as suicide.
Officers arrived on the scene and found Aktas with a gunshot wound to the head but still alive, and immediately arranged for her to be taken to hospital.
Her husband claimed that she tried to commit suicide as the victim battled for her life in intensive care for almost two months before against all the odds making a recovery.
When she was conscious, the victim told the police that she did not try to kill herself, but that her husband raped her, and then tried to murder her, according to local news site Bursadabugun.
Following the police investigation, the indictment said that a row broke out between the young couple and that Aktas had tried to leave.
However, the suspect refused to allow his wife to leave and allegedly raped her.
When she tried to flee the house again, the Turkish cop then shot her in the head, according to the indictment.
The suspect has been charged with attempted murder against a spouse, deprivation of personal liberty, qualified sexual assault, and deliberate injury to a spouse.
He reportedly faces up to 75 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
