Turkish Teenager Shoots Older Woman He Had Secret Crush On After She Gets Engaged

A Turkish teenager has been arrested for shooting a woman almost 10 years older who he supposedly had a secret crush on after learning that she had just become engaged to another man.

The shooting took place in a park in the suburb of Kucukcekmece in the Turkish city of Istanbul on Monday evening.

The suspect, identified as Enes Gergus, 19, is accused of shooting his friend Gulsum Sengul, 28, after arranging to meet her in the park.

The suspect reportedly fired three times at the young woman, who had just got engaged to a man six hours previously.

According to the newspaper Milliyet, the shooter then fled the scene as the seriously-injured woman collapsed on the ground and was helped by passersby, including a local nurse in the park at the time.

The emergency services arrived on the scene and the victim was taken to hospital where she is still undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, Gergus reportedly killed himself a few streets away by shooting himself in the head.

Aziz Kuskaya, a shop owner near the park, said: “A young man shot a young woman and then ran away. He fired three times and fled.

No statement has yet been made by Gulsum’s family or her fiance.

The investigation continues.
