A Turkish man has been arrested for slashing his ex-wife’s throat five times during a woodland walk and then going for a meal afterwards as if nothing had happened.

The incident took place in a forest in the district of Muratpasa in the southern Turkish city of Antalya on 2nd November last year.

Anil Kahraman, 39, told the court that on the day of the incident, he took Neslihan Yilmaz, 36, from her brother’s house and went to the forest.

In his first statement to the police, Kahraman said that he argued with his ex-wife over the custody of their two children, aged 8 and 9, and that was the reason for the murder.

However, after appearing in front of the judge, the suspect admitted that he had been planning the murder for seven years.

Kahraman said: “I cut her throat with a knife. She got down on her knees. She was dying. I did not want to hurt her. I wanted to kill her quickly.

“I bought new clothes in a shop. After eating lunch I went to the house of Neslihan’s brother and I called the police.”

The lawyer of the victim’s family, Yagmur Burcin Sayin, said: “At this stage, the event is not a deliberate murder, but a planned murder in cold blood.

“This claim is also present in the messages the defendant sent to the brother of the deceased. Finally, the accused cut the throat of his ex-wife with five knife strokes.”

The case continues.
