This jilted boyfriend who raped and tried to kill his girlfriend by stabbing and running over her in a car after she tried to break up with him has been jailed for 53 years.
The verdict made by the Bakirkoy 8th High Criminal Court was reported by the local press yesterday (10 December).
Emre Cicek, 25, was found guilty of sexually assaulting, restricting freedom for sexual purposes, and attempting to murder his ex-girlfriend Rabia Kacmaz, 25, in the district of Florya in the Turkish city of Istanbul on 6th February 2019.
Cicek took the victim to a restaurant in a rented vehicle where she tried to break up with him after telling him she was unhappy in the relationship.
Cicek then took the victim to a textile workshop where had recently started working after telling her he had a surprise for her, even convincing her to cover her eyes.
He then placed her in plastic handcuffs and bound her at the knees and feet.
The victim said that Cicek then told her: “I brought you here to punish you. You will not be able to get out of here. I will tear you to pieces here.”
The victim was given a chance to say goodbye to her mother over the phone before she began to be brutally tortured and sexually assaulted.
She was stabbed in the kidney and choked with a pillow before being covered with a blanket, placed half-naked inside a sack, and put in the boot of a car.
Cicek drove to a nearby lake and left her on the ground where he first kicked Kacmaz to check for signs of life and then ran over her before driving away to turn himself in to police.
Despite the measures taken against her life, Kacmaz incredibly survived and was placed in intensive care for a long time before she was discharged.
Cicek admitted to having injured the victim but denied the rape claims and said he was the real victim for spending several months in custody during the investigation.
He told the court: “I injured her, I regret it very much. I would not touch Rabia’s hair. I wish I was injured instead, I’ve been in prison for months. I am the real victim here.”
However, he was later found guilty and sentenced to 53 years in prison.
The high sentence comes for the aggravating circumstances that she had been kidnapped for the purpose of sexual assault and because the murder was planned in advance with malice aforethought.
Also jailed from the incident is an unnamed friend of Cicek who received eight years for assisting in the kidnapping.
Upon hearing the verdict, Kacmaz said: “The punishment given to him cannot make me forget what I’ve been through, but I am happy to have justice. I will sleep well today tonight.”
