A Turkish man aged 60 has been arrested for shooting his ex-wife who was almost half his age and then trying to cover it up by grabbing her phone and sending himself text messages after her death.

The alleged killer, Abdullah Kaya, is accused of killing gym worker Hulya Gulluce, 39, at the home they shared in the neighbourhood of Belediye Evleri in the Turkish city of Adana at around 7am on 4th October.

The couple had been legally divorced, but he had persuaded her to come back so they could try again, according to the news source DHA.

The victim’s body was found later in a pool of blood by her 17-year-old daughter, identified only by her initials, S.N.K.

The teenager informed the authorities, and police and medical teams were sent to the address.

Officers reviewed the CCTV footage and soon arrested the victim’s ex-husband.

According to the police, the suspect carried out a fake SMS chat between him and the victim that morning, to try to cover his tracks.

He had hoped to show that they were in a loving relationship with the fake messages.

He wrote text messages like “good morning my love” to his phone from hers, and then replied in an equally loving way.
