An 18-year-old girl has been shot in the back of the head and killed while frying potatoes for breakfast at a friend’s house, with three teenagers at the property all blaming each other for pulling the trigger.

Ece Naz Macit had gone to the house in Sirasogutler neighbourhood, in the district of Darica, Kocaeli Province, northwestern Turkey, on 29th June to visit friends when she was fatally shot.
Neighbours called the emergency services after hearing gunfire, prompting police and paramedics to rush to the property.

The teenager was taken to hospital by ambulance but died despite doctors’ efforts to save her.
Investigators said Ece was standing at the kitchen counter frying potatoes when she was shot in the back of the head from behind with an unlicensed, illegal pistol.
Police detained the three other people who were in the house at the time, two 19-year-old men and a 17-year-old girl.

The suspects, identified only as S.C.G., Y.O. and A.A., who was the girlfriend of one of the men, allegedly blamed each other during questioning before appearing in court.
All three were remanded in custody on suspicion of intentional homicide and firearms offences.
Ece’s mother, Done Macit, 46, said she wanted the case fully investigated and demanded the toughest possible punishment for those responsible.

She said she first learned something was wrong after her sister called to say Ece had become involved in an argument.
Done said: “I came out of the house and saw my son’s friends at the door. They looked worried. I asked them, ‘Did you hear something?’ They just looked at each other.
“When I went downstairs, there was a huge crowd. As soon as I saw all those people, I knew something terrible had happened. They told me Ece had been shot, and I collapsed.”

The heartbroken mother pleaded for justice, saying: “My child was taken from me. I want justice. Raising a child is not easy. How can someone’s life be taken so easily?”
She also revealed the devastating detail that has haunted her since her daughter’s death.

Done said: “My child had gone there hungry. It happened while she was making breakfast, frying potatoes. I don’t even want to buy potatoes anymore because they remind me of what happened.
“She had the potatoes in her hand. She was facing the kitchen counter when someone shot her from behind. How can anyone do that?”
Ece’s grandmother, Hayriye Gazi, also appealed for justice, saying: “Don’t let my granddaughter’s blood be forgotten. I can’t bear this pain. She was my flower, and they took her away.”
